Churches and Youth Groups
In NSW and QLD volunteers do not have mandatory reporting obligations but you are well placed to observe children who may be showing indicators of abuse or risk of abuse.
The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse made several specific recommendations for religious organisations which specifically impact on your duty of care to children.
It is important as adults to be able to recognise indicators of abuse and understand the dynamics of Child Abuse so you know how to do something about reporting and so that you can ensure all procedures are appropriate.
Given the regular engagement of children and young people in ministry groups, it is also important to be aware of appropriate practices to minimise the risk to children and potential allegations against staff and the organisation.
Helen has significant life experience, faith and education in various Christian denominations and combines that knowledge, skill and sensitivity in developing fit for purpose material.
