Your Obligations

In NSW and QLD, councils operate a number of services engaging children and young people. 


The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse made several specific recommendations which specifically impact on your duty of care to children.

Government Departments

In NSW a number of government staff have mandatory reporting obligations under various pieces of legislation including:

  • Health care, and, 

  • Welfare, and, 

  • Education, and, 

  • Residential services (e.g. refuge workers), and, 

  • Law enforcement.

 

In Queensland a number of government staff have mandatory reporting obligations under various pieces of legislation including:

  • Commissioner for Children and Young People and Child Guardian, and, 

  • State or non-state school employees, and, 

  • Family Court personnel, and, 

  • Detention centre employees.
