Victoria to expanding mandatory reporting in 2019 to better protect kids

In a welcome move, the Victorian government is passing laws to broaden those who are designated mandatory reporters; some of whom seem frankly glaring by their current omission.

From 1st March 2019 the current list will be extended to include:

Those who work in out of home care (excluding voluntary foster and kinship carers),

Early childhood and youth justice,

Registered psychologists.

From 31st January 2020 school counsellors will also be added.

Training is now beginning to being these notifiers on board in line with the legislation changes.

In the wake of the Royal Commission and the apology, it is heartening to see real changes being made.
